It's That Time of Year Again. Pitchforks and Torches Season (2019 Version)

It's that time of year again. The air is turning cooler, the leaves are turning brown and the sound of fingers angrily clacking on keyboards fills the air. It seems to come earlier every year. Yes, it's pitchforks and torches season in Nebraska once again.

Fire Everybody!!!
Yes, pitchforks and torches season is an annual rite here in Nebraska. Many of Nebraska's youth get their first taste of manhood hurling a proverbial javelin through the gut of the current coach or AD. Why the first one I can easily remember is the infamous Black Friday in 2001. And of course I lived through what is perhaps the greatest pitchforks and torches season there ever was in the fall of 2007.

And oh yes, I was definitely among those partaking in the great tradition during the final year of the Riley Era. In my mind I remember flipping a few cars, smashing a few windows and skewering a few fools on the edge of my pitch fork on social media. Then again, my mind is probably a bit fuzzy on account of all the concussions from police batons and tear gas my body endured during all that rioting.

In the title I say this is the 2019 version, because I wrote a similar article in 2017. After 2017, I thought we were done with this season for a while but we just love it so much we aren't even content to limit it to just the fall anymore. The keyboard rioting that went on during the final year of the Tim Miles Era & the last year of the Erstad Era before he orchestrated that impressive turnaround was really quite impressive. Hell, we got so bored of not rioting we even invented an alcohol problem for our AD and spread it to the point where our university administration actually had to address it.

I love being a part of this fan base so much. Traveling all over the country to watch my team, meeting up with thousands of complete strangers just like me has instilled in me a belief that there really is something magical about being in this fan-base that you just don't get anywhere else.

But hot damn, we have a tendency to go off at any moment.

Ever since Frost was hired, we've preached that this will take a while. There's going to be bumps and they will pop up in unexpected places at unexpected times. And it was that patience that got us through last year relatively calm. I was very proud of how mostly everyone remained patient last year, but now it seems some people were just bottling it up, ready to explode at the first sign of trouble.

To be fair this is probably a vocal minority. But that vocal minority gives us all a bad look and gives off the impression that they speak for all of us. It's time to stand up and be the vocal majority. Support this team. Know and accept this is a process. Don't let the trolls and losers who pretend to "know football" send our fan base spiraling down into oblivion yet again.

I'm done with pitchforks and torches season. The excess rioting of the Riley years wore out and broke all my pitchforks and a sturdy new quality pitchfork is surprisingly expensive. I don't have the time or energy to get so worked up because I know everything will be fine in the end.

Well that and frankly I'm too fragile to make it through prison again.

To Break Nebraska Football Curse, Frank Solich to Sacrifice 'Lil Red at Halftime of Fordham Game

Lincoln, NE - After finding yet another Rock Bottom last week at Illinois, Nebraska football finds itself growing increasingly desperate to break the almost 2 decade curse that has befallen the program. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced this week that former Nebraska head coach Frank Solich would be returning to Memorial Stadium to perform a blood sacrifice of 'Lil Red while dressed as the original fan favorite "Blonde Herbie" during halftime of the Fordham game.  "We thank 'Lil Red and the unfortunate student scheduled to play him this Saturday for their long service to this university," said new UNL Athletic Director Trev Alberts in a statement released on Friday. "But these are desperate times and 'Lil Red was always kind of stupid anyway." The source of the curse remains unknown, but its existence has long centered around 3 popular fan theories: 1. The introduction of 'Lil Red as a mascot 2. The retirement of "Blonde Her

BREAKTHROUGH: After Decades of 'N is for Knowledge,' World's Scientists Announce Creation of 2nd Nebraska Joke

After over four decades of milking the exact same joke about Nebraska football, the world's top scientists in every major field of research have come together to announce the creation of a 2nd joke. The original joke simply proclaims the 'N' on the side of Nebraska's football helmet stands for 'Knowledge.' They announced this breakthrough was the culmination of 10 years of collaborative research and over $250 billion spent. "Normally we'd spend that kind of time and resources on medical advances, technological breakthroughs, more efficient methods of engineering and manufacturing, but this joke had just gotten so stale. We eventually came to the conclusion that the best possible service we could do for society was to help them out of this rut," world-renowned quantum theorist Alain Aspect said. "I mean, come on! The joke doesn't even make sense. By the very structure of the joke, the joke teller is the one insisting the N stands for knowle

$5.8M in Brick Wall Related Damages Reported in Nebraska after Scott Frost Releases Hype Video

Lincoln, NE - The state of Nebraska is reeling Friday morning from devastation and destruction caused by a hype video released Thursday afternoon by Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost on Twitter, sending thousands of fans across the state sprinting straight through the nearest brick wall, severely threatening the structural integrity of countless buildings. pic.twitter.com/2BR8slArsW — Scott Frost (@coach_frost) June 20, 2019 "WHO YOU ARE SOME OF THE TIME IS WHO YOU ARE ALL OF THE TIME," screamed Hastings resident Derick Bachmeier as he plowed through the exterior wall of the local Russ' Market and straight into the produce section. Even residents as far as the Sand Hills found themselves caught up in the hype as Randy Grove, 64, drove over 45 minutes to find a brick wall to his liking with the specific intention of sprinting straight through it. "I mean sure there were some cavity brick walls nearby, as well as dry wall, wood paneling and all
